Day 2: Sankri to Juda Talab
The next morning you’ll start early on the trek to the Kedar Kantha Base which is around 6 km trek from the camp 1. You will start climbing through the thick pine forests as you cross the Saur village. The trail then goes along a ridge, climbing up till you reach a clearing with a fairy-tale setting of a lake surrounded by dense pine. There used to be two lakes which combined into one hence the name – Juda ka Talaab.
The trail from Juda ka Talaab is pretty clear as you start climbing up the ridge. The gradient of the climb gets steeper as you gain altitude. The path goes through some dense pine before opening into a meadow with a lone shepherd’s hut.
From the clearing it’s a gentler climb now through oak trees, as you finally reach another clearing with a 180 degree view of white Himalayan peaks – Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Nag and Ranglana standing out from the others.
This is the Kedar Kantha Base and you will be camping here for the night.
Trek distance: 6 km
Altitude gain: approx. 2,300 ft
Day 3: Juda Talab to Kedar Kantha meadow

Today’s trek is going to be the longest and the most exciting of the trip. You will start early and scale the ridge by noon. This 2 hour climb is going to be challenging and will show you spectacular views of the Himalayas. At the summit is a small temple of Ganesh and Shiva-Parvati. One can see the Gangotri and Yamunotri ranges from the peak. After spending some time at the top, you will descend to the campsite, have lunch and trek down to Sankri. From Sankri you will be driven to the riverside campsite before Mori village.
