Georgia Mountain Biking Itinerary
Transfer to hotel, briefing and warm up ride to Kojori. You will be received by GoMissing team on your arrival at Tbilisi International Airport. After you settle in your hotel, we will go for a warm up ride.
If you have chosen to rent one of our bikes, this ride will familiarize you with your vehicle. If you have brought your own bike with you we will help you assemble it after its journey and ensure that it is ride worthy.
In the afternoon we take the vehicles up to Kojori at 1600 metres above the city for a thrilling action packed descent down to the main park in Tbilisi Vake. This ride takes in some of the best riding available close to the city with two off camber rock gardens, numerous single track sections through pine forests and winding along smooth undulating jeep track for a total 20 km descent.
Overnight at Tbilisi.
We head for Tusheti and the Abano pass. The pass is the only way in and out of Tusheti. It is only passable during the summer months from May to October.
Initially we drive through Kakhetian vineyards and then follow the dramatic mountain road carved in the road beside the fast flowing river and numerous waterfalls. Eventually we emerge from the tree line. We won’t make you climb the 45km and 2000m of vertical ascent up to the 2900m pass.
However, after a spot of lunch, there will be the opportunity to ride from a vantage point 4km from the top for those who’d like to warm up. At the pass we’ll stop for some photos and catch our breath before a superb descent of 25kms into Tusheti that will stay with you for life.
It twists down the mountain on hairpin switchbacks with a serious gradient over rough gravel, loose over hard surfaces and smooth dirt tracks along a valley through fantastic scenery to the valley floor.
Eventually the road starts to take on an uphill gradient for about 4km, through alpine meadows, as we climb to the village of Omalo where we visit the 17th century village fortresses. Known as Keselo towers they are only found in Tusheti and in some bordering areas in Dagestan and Ingushetia in Russia. We’ll stay in a comfortable guesthouse in Omalo and enjoy a traditional Georgian supra prepared with local produce by our wonderful hosts.
Overnight stay in guesthouse in Omalo.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Ride back to Omalo along river valley for traditional Georgian food & wine.
Taking on plenty of carbs this morning at breakfast is recommended today, as we set off for Dartlo and a new valley, Pirikiti Alazani. Starting off with a short fast descent from Omalo we soon begin to climb a fairly long but very enjoyable track to the top of the Valley where we are rewarded with a 15km descent through lush pine forests and along winding rough trails.
We stop here for the afternoon in the village of Dartlo, replete with medieval defence towers making it one of the most picturesque villages in the Tusheti region. There’ll be time to wander round through its narrow streets and see how the true Tushetians live. We’ll spend the night here in one of the traditionally built guesthouses where a supra will be laid out on the balcony for us whilst we take in the view and excellent wine.
Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Dartlo.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Today we venture further up the Valley passing through remote villages such as Parsma, a village set upon a rocky outcrop above the trail. Deserted ruins from ancient Georgia are visible high on the valley side. The trail is a mix of double track barely passable by vehicle and single track used only by adventurous trekkers and locals. This makes for a superb round trip of 30km, Girevi being our furthermost point here.
We return to Dartlo alongside the adventurous river trail, a section that requires full concentration.
Overnight stay in guesthouse in Dartlo.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Now that we are fully used to the altitude and have our riding legs, we cycle from Dartlo to Omalo and onto the village of Diklo passing through smaller villages on the way.
The ride starts with a great descent from Omalo before a physically tough ascent to Shenako, but don’t worry there’s vehicle support for those that aren’t up to the climb. Shenako is an ancient village with an historic church. We stop here for lunch and photos before continuing to Diklo, one of the furthermost villages we’ll visit on the trip before rewarding ourselves for the tough morning climb by riding it in reverse.
It’s a fantastic descent certain to put a smile on your face.
Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Shenako.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Today we will drive from Omalo to the Abano Pass. There is an option for the masochists involving a very early wakeup call and a long and strenuous trip up to the Abano pass a choice for the brave!
From the pass, it is a very long technical adrenalin filled descent (more than 2,000 m of vertical descent) back down onto the Kakhetian plains. There are plenty of off camber rock gardens combined with smooth dirt sections and full of hairpin switch backs taking us all the way down to the valley floor where we follow a gorge through forests offering many tributary crossings and winding, rolling dirt track before we eventually reach tarmac on the plains.
We stay overnight in a guesthouse in the historic town of Sighnaghi.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
This day is about rewarding yourself with wine, sightseeing and more wine. We are in Kakheti, the birthplace of wine and a region famous for its world-class vineyards.
First we drive to Kvareli to visit a traditional winery, famous for its “Kindzmarauli” (try to pronounce it!) wines, which were the favourites of Jossif Stalin. We visit a winery “Pheasant’s Tears”, renowned for its handcrafted natural wines, prepared according to the ancient Georgian principles. In the evening we enjoy a dinner with traditional Georgian songs and dances at a restaurant in central Tbilisi.

For our final day we head for Lisi lake just outside the city for a gentle but rewarding ride around some of the villages close to the city, combining single track, double jeep track and cattle trails here we spend a great day just meandering along superb local trails with breathtaking views of the city only seen by the local MTB enthusiast and our guests. For those who have no power left in their legs there’s an option to do a city tour to see many of the wonderful sights available to tourist in this ancient capital.
