What the expedition encompasses
The challenge – grueling uphill climbs to reach some of the most spectacular spots you can possibly imagine. Don’t forget, the altitude will vary from anywhere between 3,500 to 4,500 meters. Add to that cold and thin mountain air. Once you do it, you can proudly tell yourself what you’re truly made of.
The more fun challenge – after those uphill climbs, don’t forget there will be a massive decent into the valley. Some single tracks, some gravel tracks, some roads and all will have a few things in common – you, a spectacular adventure, the fresh mountain air and the landscape which you can’t imagine while sitting here.
The places you’ll visit – will leave you speechless to say the least. Those pictures which you bring back will be a memory of a lifetime
The break days – breathe the air, walk in villages, short recovery rides, hot tea, local food and a complete rejuvenation of senses.

Spiti Mountain Biking itinerary
Arrive in Manali in the morning and spend the day walking/ hiking to acclimatize to the altitude
You’ll be picked up early in the morning from your hotel for the 10 – 11 hours drive across the Rohtang pass and Kunzum pass to Kaza.
From Kaza to Tabo, the distance is roughly 50 km. The ride is predominantly downhill, however as every mountainous ride goes, there are several uphill sections on the ride. Kaza lies at an altitude of about 3,600 meters and Tabo is at an altitude of about 3,280 meters.
At Tabo, after checking into the guest house, visit the Tabo Monastery which is said to be over 1000 years old. The walls of the monastery are adorned with beautiful frescos. You may need to carry a torch to be able to see these as it is quite dark inside the temples.
Ride distance is about 68 km (return). Today will be a good challenge as there will be several climbs and downhill sections. The last 8 km to Gyu village is a steep climb. Be prepared as the ride today is going to be spectacular.
After visiting the mummified lama, you will ride back to Tabo.
Tabo altitude: 3,280 meters (First downhill, then uphill) Gyu: 3,000 meters
This 65 km long ride is going to have a number of inclines and declines. The ascent to Mudh is a super uphill. Be prepared and you’ll enjoy the ride like no other. The entire Pin Valley National Park area is so spectacular, that you won’t find the words to describe it.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight Mudh, Pin Valley National Park
You’ve earned this one! Spend the day walking around in Mud or spend it relaxing at a small cafe and enjoy the honey lemon ginger tea in those spectacular surroundings. If you feel like it, you can hike up to one of the hills nearby and take some spectacular pictures of the Pin Valley.
Overnight Mud, Pin Valley National Park
The 50 km today won’t be a problem. You would be very well acclimatized and there would be a lot of downhill sections today. Enjoy the ride, take loads of pictures and breathe that delicious mountain air.
Overnight Kaza
Komic, the highest village in Asia is about 23 km away from Kaza. What this means is simply that there is a massive 23 kms incline to be tackled today. Once again, the views at Komic will leave you speechless. Those spectacular meadows above 4,000 meters, the blue skies, the beautiful monasteries with fluttering prayer flags are simply delightful to the senses.
After Komic, you will ride downhill to Langza village for a little while and then continue downhill to Kaza.
Overnight Kaza
You’ll give the bikes a rest today and head out for a short drive followed by a trek to a gorgeous high altitude lake in Spiti. We’ll keep the destination suspense for the time being!
Overnight Kaza
This stretch is arguably the most spectacular section of the Spiti trip. The ride from Kaza (3,600 meters) to Losar (4,080 meters) is a predominant uphill and the distance is about 58 km. Be prepared as this one is going to be a tough ride.
Overnight at a basic guest house in Losar.
This morning, you will ride to Chandrataal lake which is about 28 km from Losar. The ride from Losar to Kaza involves an elevation gain of about 500 meters over an 18 km distance. From Kunzum pass, there is a gorgeous downhill to Batal form where the road turns towards Chandrataal. The stretch from Batal to Chandrataal is about 7 kms long and is unbelievably beautiful. This stretch is also an uphill ride.
Overnight camping near the lake
Today starts of with a gorgeous (relatively easy) single track downhill to reach Batal and further into the Lahaul valley towards Rohtang pass. Enjoy the downhill sections till about 1 PM and then load up the bikes on the escort vehicle for the drive to Manali.
