After ages, I decided to pay a visit to one of my favorite haunts in the vicinity… the Hauz Khas lake.
Usually, the lake is teeming with bird life; but for any sighting one has to reach there at the crack of dawn, or at dusk when birding activity is at its peak.
The lazy bum in me only managed to reach there in the evening (4PM). Usually around this time you can see the spot billed ducks and other ducks swimming around. Only by the time the sun sets you can see the bushes teeming with activity. But by that time light is too poor for any photography.
The only few pics I did get were of the spot billed duck (one with its reflection in the water). After getting a few of these shots, i had pretty much given up and decided to head back as the light was getting poorer.
On my way back, a gorgeous Oriental Magpie Robin decided to pay a visit and make its presence felt by tweeting loudly. The usual behavior of these birds is that they sit in the tree and sing, and as soon as they get an opportunity, they jump out and pick up bread crumbs left by evening walkers.
I decided to wait for a bit and see if this Magpie would come out of its hiding. It wasn’t long before it flew out, picked up some bread crumbs and proceeded to enjoy them…here are a few shots…
I love the magpie…
Oriental Magpie Robin is not looking around — it is giving you that slit-eyed ‘do-I-know-you’ kinda look 🙂
