Qutub Minar

The Quwwat ul Islam Mosque – was India’s 1st mosque built and was built in 1192-1316 by Qutubbudin Aibak. The Qutub Minar came up later in the same complex as the mosque. Qtubbbudin Aibak was a fanatical Muslim and ordered the destruction of 27 Hindu and Jain temples for the procuring construction material for the mosque.
Pillars used for the mosque had insciptions from the Hindu and Jain temples, but are against the Islamic practices of having images as a part of Mosques. The artisans were forced to plaster over the images and symbols. However, after ages, the plaster has withered off and the original symbols are once again visible.
